2008-02-12 By Admin for General
If you have a problem with running a game, specially if it simply does not loads up, please try to download and install Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package (x86).
If it does not help, please send me a spark.log file from game's folder. Thanks!
Starting a server
2008-02-11 By Admin for General
Just a quick note. To host a game over the LAN simply start a server from desktop icon. It got all default setup for LAN so there should not be any problems. Then any player who wants to join simply needs to fire up a client, find server and of ya go!
For now there is no Master server. So if you want to play over the net you will have to input server IP manually from options window.

First Beta Release!
2008-02-03 By Admin for General
First Beta release is out! Grab it from download page. It contained fully functional server, client and map editor. All tested and 100% working! At this stage all game mechanics completed to 95%, only minor update need to be done. Next stage will be to find a artist and give SaW graphical overhaul which will include additional graphical effects such as tire marks, smoke, partial effects and so on.
Also some new screenshots are added. Check em out to see what game looks like at current stage. Soon more screenshots will be added to show off some more gameplay!
And you already probably understood that we are looking for Artists to, pretty much, redo all graphics for SaW. To make it original and finally good looking! If anybody interested please send email to support@sandautowars.com or admin@skymill.org. This is noncommercial project so do not wait for any pay. You reward will be warm feelings, free hugs and space in credits! For some it much better then any cash in the world!
And last but not least, I will start to make some update for the web page to make it function and look little bit better. And of course if we find an Artist we can actually update it with some decent pictures and stuff!

Official web page for the upcoming online multiplayer action game, Sand Auto Wars is open!
Sand Auto Wars is a project developed by the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) students as part of the ITB009 and ITB010 Core Project curriculum. The idea of the project is to develop an online game, which will mimic and expand multilayer components of GTA 2 game. Saw will contain fully functional server/client multilayer components (ex. Counter-Strike). Game is planning to be developed in simple 2D graphic style with top-down view. This will insure that game will be light and any decent PC will be able to run it as smoothly as possible. Also game will designed to use as little bandwidths and be lag free during internet gaming sessions.
Sand Auto Wars is an online multiplayer action game. The main concept of the gameplay is fighting, using various vehicles to destroy your enemies. At the start of the game, all players will be sitting in cars of their choice. By using weapons mounted on the vehicles, players will have to destroy other players of an opposite team. Different types of vehicles will have different advantages/disadvantages. For example heavy vehicles will be slow and clumsy, but you can use big weapons and can take a lot of hits while light vehicles are very fast but can use only light weapons. Maps will consist of a fixed area, for example an open desert field or a city with some structures. Players begin at different starting points. During the game, statistics of player’s kills/deaths will be recorded and displayed.
